It's pretty common for cream pies. I'm not too keen on meringue, either - bet the whipped cream would be good on your lemon... what time is dessert?!
You can put whipped cream on any damn kind of pie you want to put it on. Hell, you can put it on mashed potatoes, if you want to. Go for it...

Oh yea whip cream is fine.I'm not to excited over raw egg whites either.When I make any kind of lemon pie I always use whipped cream.To make a meringue like topping use a tub of cool whip and add a small splash of cream.Mix with electric beaters for about 5 minutes for a good fluffy topping for your pie!
Any kind of pie is good with cool whip or whipped cream. But I have to correct you because the egg whites on a lemon meringue pie are not raw they are baked after they are put on the pie. I don't like the meringue either.

You can use whipped cream on Chocolate, Coconut and most cream pies, but I would use graham cracker crust (you can buy ready made) when using whipped cream (or cool whip)

It would be fine with anyyy pie ...I put whipped cream on all pies actually if I dont have any other toppings...but its best with pumpkin pie ;)

I think it kind of goes to whatever you like.... that's more what cooking is then following recipes to the letter anyway. If you don't particularly like part of it, adapt it and do what you want with it. Then it becomes your own recipe! Personally I haven't found much of anything that whipped cream isn't perfect on.

The egg whites are not supposed to be raw. You put the pie in the oven and brown the meringue. It is fully cooked after a few minutes. But whipped cream on chocolate or coconut pie, pecan, sweet potato, pumpkin, apple is terrific.
Whipped cream and pies were made for each other. Leave it seperate from the lemon pie to try it out. If you like it, go for it. I hate merangue too!
